Wheat bran is a by-product of the wheat milling process, it is used
primarily as a food supplement for domestic animals. It is also used in the manufacture
of breakfast cereals, as an ingredient in livestock feed, and sometimes as an ingredient
in flour.
Oil from wheat bran is sometimes used for cooking.
Wheat bran has been shown to lower blood cholesterol and has also been shown to reduce
cholesterol absorption from the intestine. Although wheat bran is mostly fiber, it is
not associated with any of the intestinal discomforts that may be experienced with the
ingestion of other high-fiber foods.
Wheat Bran oil is used as a drying oil in paints and alternative to
linseed oil. Wheat Bran supplements are marketed although there is no scientific
evidence that they offer any health benefits.
Wheat bran is a good source of iron and calcium as well as dietary fiber and protein.
